Snow day

5.1.10

I'm officially sick and tired of the snow. This morning I set off for the first day of my new temp assignment apprehensively due to the deep snow on my street. It was the deep, crunchy kind which is usually ok to drive in (I was wrong).
The view from my front door this afternoon - note the lack of my car :'(

Then I hit the main road and thought 'phew' - surely I would be ok on there?! Nope! The roads weren't gritted and they were lined with abandoned cars and buses which were struggling to get up and down the road. Also I heard a lorry had tipped over nearby and was majorly holding up all the traffic in the area.

My brakes weren't working properly and when I set off my wheels were spinning in a mad rage ("go back to bed Victoria!" they screamed). After slipping around precariously for 20 minutes I gave up and headed home only to get stuck a couple of roads away from my house. I frantically phoned my boyfriend to come and help me and he managed to push me to safety at the side of the road (my car is still there. I can't face digging it out right now).

This is what I needed when I made it home

I have spent the day sat at home with the boyfriend (who also couldn't make it to work - he works miles away) and the dogs. They love it! They think it's great. Me on the other hand - I'm seriously fed up with it. Not only is it stopping me earning money but it's so dangerous attempting to drive anywhere. I drive a Smart car for God's sake. They ain't so smart in the snow I can tell you!

Geri absolutely loves the snow! She covers herself in it, eats it and runs around in a daft panic!

What's the weather like where you are? Apparently it's only going to get worse.

  1. Most of the people at work who get the train (me included) made it in- it's annoying because you can get in but it's a right trek to get there! I nearly slipped over a million times and my toes are freezing this eve :(

Looks like it's going to be here for a couple of weeks too! Ugh!x

  2. Geri is almost camouflaged in the snow! :) Sorry you didn't make it to work, driving in bad weather is horrid.

I live in a mountainous area, so there's always plenty of snow here during the winter. I hate it, haha.

  6. I am utterly, utterly sick of the snow. I stupidly battled in (I work in Sheffield!!!) which took 2 hours, then I left at 1 and had a bump in my car on the way home. Luckily no damage but still, it really shook me up. Gaaaah! Go away SNOW!!!

Glad you made it home okay even if your car didn't! And the dogs are totally loving it!

  7. I live in Toronto, so the weather you have in the UK is what we normally have here every winter - I feel your pain! It makes getting to work or doing anything for that matter very hard!

  10. I feel your pain, it is supposed to snow here in the south tonight and I am so annoyed because I have annual leave from work and sooo many things to do around the house and go to the gym and so if it snows basically 1 day out of 25 holiday days is completely and utterly wasted. So unfair.

  19. Its so bad isn't it! I walked into work today and most people didn't make it in. My boss wouldn't let anyone go even those who live miles away so we all had to go home in the snow, in places it was upto my knees. I wish i hadn't bothered! x

  24. Ah, it is an absolute bloody nightmare :( My family in norway can face up to 10ft of snow this time of year, but big trucks sweep the roads by sucking the snow up and flinging it out to the sides. They somehow manage to make it workable... yet britain comes to a standstill yet again :( We all wanted a white christmas but now were stuck in a giant freezer! x

  25. It used to be so much fun when I was little and didn't have to worry about work and things, now I'm a right old grump about it! But the highlight is seeing the dogs go crazy in it, Lord Wallace does the exact same thing as Geri, it's so cute! I loved reading the story of how you came about adopting Lily and Lola p.s
