Primark trip & hair help needed!

10.2.10

I had some birthday cash to use and headed to Primark where, lets face it, you get lots more for your money. I really like Topshop at the moment but I wanted more than one or two things and they're charging £50 for plain jumpers these days. Anyway, I digress! Here's what I got :) They had lots of other things that I liked but nothing in my size which is always the way!

I love the floral dress - the scoop at the back is lower than the front so it looks really nice on. I have to constantly breathe in when I wear it as it's quite clingy but anywhoo! I also love the pink t shirt which has ruffle sleeves which dress it up a little.

I also popped to Boots to stock up on a few things and decided to get some John Frieda brunette shampoo and conditioner. I still have some Clynol shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair but I like to alternate between a couple of different brands and my purple shampoo for blonde hair is no longer any use to me! I also got a huge Tresemme barrel brush which is good for smoothing my hair under.

Right girls I need your help. I try everything to get volume in my hair and nothing works. It either makes my hair feel unwashed and overloaded with product or it lasts until I step out of the door and then a tiny poof of wind knocks it flat! Which products or tools do you recommend? What have you tried and tested with good results? I need your help!

  1. Those primark things are lovely : ) The only thing that has given my hair volume was big shampoo from lush, although it stopped after a while. My hair is insistent on being flat : (

  2. Have you tried Redken Guts? I've been loving that lately for volume and also keeps the second day hair greasies away :) xx

  9. I've just bought that blue dotty Primark dress too, great minds think alike!

I like Tigi root boost spray and I've heard that Bumble & Bumble volume spray is supposed to be amazing!

I suggest Tigi Root Boost and put big fat rollers in your hair! Great for volume! x

  14. Love the Primark pretties! I really want that blue version of my grey dress - it's gorgeous!

I have very fine, flat hair and have found a method that works for me, but to be honest the best thing I did to inject real volume was have it all cut off! I use L'Oreal Studio Line Hot Volume mousse (which may have been discontinued as I can't find it anywhere!), blow dry with my head upside down and the brush lightly into shape. I also only condition the ends of my hair and use dry shampoo on an evening if I'm going out without washing my hair.

  19. I use Lush's Big shampoo for volume then just a whole load of backcombing and hairspray! But even then it doesn't hold for the whole day :( Damn fine hair! x

  20. I hate the topshop prices too! I don't want to pay designer prices for a high street brand! no thankyou! And ever since they opended in america and all the celebs made a huge fuss over it even the second hand tat on ebay sells for ridiculous prices, just because its Topshop! What is the world coming too!? lol xx

  22. Love the primark stuffs, i wish I was shorter so their gorge dresses didn't make me look like some sort of well dressed hooker lol! I end up wearing leggings with everything which is annoying. For volume I sincerely recommend both Clynols volume shampoo and spray on leave in conditioner and the tresemme 24 hour root boost spray and hairspray. The new loreal silver and purple mousse looks nice but made my hair far too sticky and smelled weird. I also have a lot of failed volume product reviews on my blog. I won't be annoying and link lol!

  23. Gorgeous clothes!
I have really fine hair but I swear by Big shampoo from Lush, Aveda Philoment (or something like that!) hair foam and anything from the Tigi Bedhead Superstar range.
The main difference I notice though is when I use rollers. Can't beat them X

  24. I love the flowery dress. As for volume I use John Frieda brilliant brunette Volumising Shampoo and then the moisturising shampoo and conditioner and then I do a bit of upside down hairdrying. It makes my hair volumised but not like a birds nest

  25. LOVE the first dress. Anything floral gets me excited!

As for volume, I'm afraid I can't help. My hair is so thick it's verging on boofy most of the time haha

  26. Firsty, love the clothes you picked out! And I totally relate to the Topshop pricing woes, it's gotten ridiculous over the years! As for your hair- backcomb, backcomb, backcomb! But not all the time as it isn't good for your hair. There's a BB spray that's good but the other day I noticed in Claire's Accessories that they have a volume hair clip thing...check that out maybe?

  27. Great choice of clothes!!I have had a bit of a shopping drought recently...I feel a big splurge coming on!

My hair is pretty thick but just doesn't hold backcombing at all, even with a can of hair spray used...
I decided to buy a pack of Bumpits off ebay for about £3....they do really work! They do take a few minutes to put in and you have to position enough hair over them to ensure they aren't visible but I really love the effect! Definitely try them out...!

You've got great taste - can't help with the hair volume though, mine's always flat as well :(
