Christmas party.

28.11.10

I have been completely organised this year and as soon as there was talk at work of our Christmas party back in October I went on a dress hunt to find something sparkly and special. I managed to find a gorgeous dress on the Warehouse website (they only had my size left, and there was £30 off!) so I snapped it up and it arrived a few days later. It fits perfectly and is really pretty. It's a maxi dress in a pale goldy pink colour with some beading and jewels around the top. Our theme is 'masquerade' so I just need a little mask to finish things off. I didn't fancy going for the big poofy ball gown angle, as maxi dresses look much better on me and hopefully I'll have an occasion to wear it again!

I have my hair straight for work every day (because it is naturally as poker straight as hair gets!) or tied up in a ponytail, so for the Christmas party I want lots of volume and big loose curls, a la Cheryl Cole.

I realise some good curling tongs and perhaps some fake hair would be in order to achieve this, but it looks lovely. Can anyone recommend some good tongs?

I also adore Miss Cole's (or is it back to Tweedy now?) makeup in the first picture and may have a test run at a nice dark smokey eye.

Roll on the Crimbo party!

  1. The Babyliss Conical Wand is really good, for achieving loose curls and it was on offer in Superdrug at £13.99 reduced from £24 ish.... x

  3. I have poker straight hair too and for years lusted after loose voluminous curls, after getting frustrated trying to do it myself with the GHD's and spending too much ££ at the hairdressers I bought a curling wand and....it was the best thing I ever did! it's brilliant and allows me create the look I want very easily :)

  6. Use your GHD's or get some Enzo Milano style ones that have no bar and you need to wear the glove with. They give really nice curls like Cheryls. The ones with the clamp dont give the wavy curl effect as well. Your dress sounds gorgeous!

Now I'm deciding if I want smokey eyes and nude lips, classic cat eyes with red lippy, or its-christmas-so-i-might-as-well-go-all-out glittery eyes! Decisions decisions xx

  11. I recommend Andrew Bartons tongs, they have different heat settings, and a large barrel so you get the large curl you're after.
Also leave some velcro rollers in the top and blast with hairdryer leave till cool that'll give you oomph.
    Sure it'll look gorge.

    xx

  12. Ooh,meant to say I curl my hair with GHD's, but my hair is naturally curly/wavy anyway so don't know if it'll work on yours? Good luck though, I think you'll look stunning! xx

  14. The Remington Pearl is my favourite. You only need to hold your hair on the tong for a couple of seconds and it gives you a strong curl, it looks even better once it's fallen a bit. Maybe do it in the morning to wear out at night.

  18. Try a conical wand.. i heard the babyliss one is good.

For lots of volume some heated rollers might be good.
