I felt the fear (& did it anyway!): the cinema.

10.1.13

I told you I'd pop something easy on the end of my "fear" list so that I could get the ball rolling. That's exactly what I did this afternoon, well and truly got the ball rolling by heading to the cinema. Alone! I didn't expect to get so many comments on that post but your quotes and kind words really spurred me on. Turns out there are lots of people out there who are just as scared as me to try new things and go to places alone, so look: if I can do it so can you!

I had a free day today so after a mammoth workout and some housework this morning I decided that a treat was in order. I have been dying to see Pitch Perfect and, as a sensitive soul, I knew that my solo cinema trip had to be a feel-good film rather than something that would have me sobbing in my seat. Although, it doesn't really take much to set me off! (I cried at an M&S food advert because the music was beautiful).

The film was awesome (and makes me want singing lessons even more than before - hey I could end up killing two birds with one stone here!) but not only that, I feel a bit more confident for doing something on my own that scared me a little.

As it turns out, lots of people go to the cinema on their own on a weekday afternoon. In fact, the majority of people were on their own including a lady in her 70s and a teenage boy who obviously has a penchant for feel-good singing movies too!

I could fidget away to my heart's content (those chairs are so damn uncomfortable), didn't have to share the Green & Black's chocolate I smuggled in and didn't miss out on something I really wanted to see.

Result! Right, which one to tackle next... :)

People look at me like I'm mad when I say I go to the cinema on my own. Been doing it for years now, because certain films I can find no one that wants to see them! And I don't want to miss out. :)
Well done for facing a fear. Xxx

Yay! I'm glad you ticked something off your fear list. I have never been to the cinema alone but it is something I would like to do. I have been to a few gigs alone so if I can do that I'm sure I can do it for the cinema too hey! x

Well done, doing things on your own is a really cool way to learn to be happy and comfortable in your own company. I used to be scared of going out to eat alone without a magazine or book (or phone to text on) then I pushed myself to do it and regularly do it now, in fact a lot of the time I do it I get little old ladies coming to sit with me and I get to meet some really interesting ladies, they tell me allsorts over our soup and bread. I really like that I get to meet someone cool and hear their stories and that they got someone to chat to over their lunch (I hate the thought of old people not having many people to talk to so I always make a point to talk to old people when they are on their own, they probably want me to shut up and go away lol) I see a man every morning on his mobility scooter 'walking' his dog when I am on my way to work and it is the highlight of my morning having a quick chat with him :)

Gosh I like to ramble, anyways, Well Done!!

I've been to the cinema on my own around 3-4 times, always on a weekday afternoon and it's been very cool. It gives you such a sense of freedom and self confidence. Good for you!

P.s. you look very beautiful :)

I definitely need to face this particular fear. I used to go with my ex boyfriend all the time, and when we broke up I realised I had noone to go and see the less mainstream films with! But I should just brave it and go alone. It's dark in there who's going to see me?

Go Victoria! I love going to films alone. Its great! When I first went by myself it was so scary, being the only person alone in the cinema. You felt that fear and you did it anyway! Go you!

Well done! I love that film. Going to the cinema alone is always something people find tricky - luckily when I was younger I worked for a cinema chain and as I had loads of free tickets I used to go on my own quite a bit (sometimes just before or after a shift) - probably good for my confidence as I was used to it!

I would like to try going to a restaurant alone - I am okay with some food places but can't seem to find the confidence for others.

YES one thing to tick off your list already, check you out!

Well done you! I have never quite mastered this, and luckily for me my boyfriend wanted to see that film! I might take a leaf out of your book soon though!

I read your previous post and was so pleased for you when I saw your tweet! You go girl and please do the singing lessons, my sis-in-law wanted to have singing lessons for years, she finally plucked up the courage and last year she recorded an album for my brother. It was amazing! Go for it, you never know what you might achieve!

Lou said...

Yay well done!! I've never tried going to the cinema alone, but I really should. Can't wait to see which of your other fears you face :) x

Well done! My brother actually did exactly the same thing a few days ago and really enjoyed it too. Just read your previous post and felt myself agreeing with so many things. Really need to give myself a boot up the backside more often and do things!
